HARLEM RENAISSANCE ARTIST AND EDUCATOR AUGUSTA SAVAGE (1892-192) was the first person in the .S. to open
a gallery dedicated to lack art. ne of the first lack women art activists of her time, she mentored a generation of lack
art makers, and fought for the funding of their work and their inclusion in mainstream art venues. maor influencer in the
Harlem Renaissance, Savage founded organizations that provided free art education to over 2,500 people and she
centered lack life in her own work.
SEARCHING FOR AUGUSTA SAVAGE, the lead film for a new :S series, American Masters Shorts, is the first
documentary made about Savage’s life and legacy. t examines Savage's influence in the art landscape, and investigates
why nearly half of the approximately 160 pieces of sculpture she created have been lost.
