Flint & Genesee Literacy Network 2020 COVID-19 Response Summary
FLGN continues to concentrate on communicating the available resources to providers and the community while continuing to align and build the capacity of providers.
ALIGNING
This resulted in us sharing several COVID-19 related products, such as the exhaustive FGLN
COVID-19 resource guide, FGLN School Continuity of Learning Plan, and FGLN Summer
Resource Guide.
After conducting a COVID-19 Needs Assessment with Choice Neighborhood residents and
local Educare parents, we realized that there was a wealth of local resources available to meet the requested needs. Instead of duplicating efforts, we increased our social media presence and openly shared these products with providers to assist families in resource navigating. Here is a summary of our COVID-19 related supports:
CONVENING
● Working collectively, we enlisted various providers and took the Summer Learning Days virtual and our cross collaboration reached over 5,000 people, a record for FGLN.
● As schools returned in the fall, besides sharing the school continuity plan we have kept our pulse on the local resources available. All schools made devices and hot spots available, although some parents were hesitant to receive them.
● Convened two Michigan Alliance for Families' Stakeholder meetings to discuss Special Education Family needs.
● Hosted several book readings and facilitated a local author book (Danielle Green, courtesy of CS Mott Foundation) giveaway at a local water distribution center.
CAPACITY BUILDING
● In partnership with Choice Neighborhoods, two introductory computer classes were offered (20 residents) and the residents all received a Chromebook for successful completion.
● Created and launched the Choice Student Success Center a learning pod for families and children to access technology, printing, and tutoring services.
● In partnership with the Flint and Genesee Chamber of Commerce, FGLN and other 2Gen providers created the Back to School Parent video series.
● The 2Gen Professional Learning Council also created a guide for how to create a productive learning space at home and a newsletter to share best practices and ongoing resources.
