Committee members should be advised of. Make sure that everyone who talks with a possible nominee communicates the same Guiding Principles.
Equip new Steering Committee members with important information
Once candidates are chosen and elected, make sure they are oriented to the Steering Committee’s purpose and goals as well as to the overall structure and priorities of the Flint & Genesee Literacy Network.
Monitor engagement
Make sure new members find a way to make an active contribution to the work of the network. If attendance and/or participation seems weak, have a conversation to explore how their involvement might be designed to be more meaningful.
Remember what it’s like to come late to the party!
New members will not have the background and context for many of the discussions. Remember to give brief background statements until they develop a little bit of history with the group.

understanding that if no opposition is communicated, the A list individuals will be contacted regarding
their interest/ability to serve
