Publisher’s Message
What a delight to learn and serve in this great community! As an entrepreneur, I am watching Green Cove Springs and Clay County expand and grow into an oasis of enormous possibilities. As a family man, future generations will have opportunities to learn, excel and thrive in the richness of the place they call home. As a pastor, it is a delight teaching members and the community to understand the importance of perspective and context in their spiritual journey. Now, as a publisher, I walk anew bridged by the important history within a community that welcomes me.
To those who understood the vision of, and contributed to, the Mt. Zion Community
Development Corporation, Inc. as a unifying and community building resource, my heart is full and thankful. Yet, our work is just beginning as I think about the cultural, economic, and educational
benefits to come from this publication, which extend beyond the boundaries of Green Cove Springs and Clay County.
I cannot forget that this journey is the result of the Sesquicentennial (150th) Celebration of Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church. Several prominent people, some known worldwide, were born right here! Green Cove Springs and Clay County, let’s keep moving FORWARD, Bonding Together! A fervent array of thanks and appreciation to everyone who made this publication a reality, while in the process, helping to repurpose the old parsonage building near the corner of North Palmetto Avenue and Walburg Street.
Grace & Peace Be Unto You,

Green Cove Springs and Clay County: FORWARD, Bonding Together! President
Mt. Zion Community Development Corporation, Inc.
Dear Friends:
Honorary Chair
Homegrown in Green Cove Springs and Clay County, it has been amazing serving as honorary chair to kick-off 2023 efforts to celebrate and commemorate 150 years of Green Cove Springs’ community history, growth, multidimensions, and unique qualities through this publication. Doubly, I am proud to magnify the tenacity of the Sesquicentennial celebration of Mt. Zion AME Church, and its associated Mt. Zion Community Development Corporation.
Through the years, I have remained rooted and grounded in servant-leadership as a
Former State of Florida State Legislator, Leon County School Board Member, and current
Mayor Pro-Tempore for the City of Tallahassee. Roots run deep and so is my desire to continue to positively impact where we live, work, and enjoy life for an ever-improving quality of life! Thanks to all who supported this first ever publication. May the work continue!
Sincerely,
Curtis B. Richardson
