Established in 1923, Mott Community College (MCC) continues to foster a fine tradition of excellence in serving the community. Named after automotive industrialist Charles Stewart Mott, MCC takes its mission of community service very seriously:
the College is devoted to providing high quality, accessible and affordable educational opportunities and services including transfer, technical and
lifelong learning programs that promote individual development and improve the overall quality of life in our multicultural community.
The College serves approximately 12,236 students each year through both credit and non-credit programs with 3,299 students, in 2018, holding the distinction of being the first person in their family to attend college. MCC’s offerings include 49 Associate Degree programs, 46 Certificate programs, and
7 Alternative Training Programs. Most students attend MCC part-time while working and nearly 44 percent of MCC’s credit- seeking student population is eligible for Pell Grants, a federal subsidy designed to provide financial assistance to low-income students. The vast majority of MCC students (81%) reside in the City of Flint and Genesee County.
In 1991, MCC became the first community college to partner with universities to offer upper division classes on MCC’s campus. The MCC University Center houses Bellevue University, Davenport University, Ferris State University, Michigan State University, Rochester College, and the University of Michigan-Flint to provide opportunities for current students and members of the community to receive either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree without having to leave Genesee County.
MCC was recognized by the Aspen Institute in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019 as one of the nation’s top community colleges, and serves as an anchor institution, safe haven, and economic driver for Flint, Genesee County, and beyond.
