held Jesus were mocking him and beating him. Having blindfolded him, they Struck him on the face and asked him, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?” They said many other insult- ing things to him. As soon as it was day, the as- sembly of the presbyters of the people was gath- ered, both chief priests and scribes. They brought Jesus into their council, saying: “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But Jesus said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, and if I also question you, you will not answer me or release me. From now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the Power of God.” They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?” He said to them, “You say it, for I am.” Then they exclaimed, “Why do we need any more witnesses? We ourselves have heard it from his own mouth!”
