The Grand Inquisitor,

The Grand Inquisitor says to the Prisoner: “We cor- rected and improved Thy teaching and based it upon Miracle, Mystery, and Authority.” The prisoner rejects that triptych and kisses the Inquisitor. The kiss of Christ on the anemic lips of the Inquisitor planted the seeds of doubt in him because he felt that supersensi- ble, non-Euclidean spirit with his heart, while his mind remained constrained in the earthly, Euclidean spirit. Which one usually does.
