to love those
i do not love!
Lord, when those who have hurt me,
insulted me, belittled me,
or intended (without meaning to) to harm me
come to my mind,
teach me to love them.
One by one—personally, uniquely—as they are,
beyond the tragedy of their supposed malice!
Yes, Lord! Let me not love imaginary,
ideal, grand, or important others,
but to love each person I meet personally!
And among them, first and foremost, to love those
who have caused me pain!
Then those whom I envy!
Then those whom I fear!
Then those whom I want to exploit.
And finally, those whom I do not know!
Lord, teach me to respect
and not to use
others!
