persons, each called into relation with all the others in Christ.
The faithful remain dispersed in the world, in homes, in
labor, in society, yet they do not cease to belong to the Eucha-
ristic Body. The Church is fully manifested only when the
scattered are gathered together in the Eucharist. There the
people become what they truly are: the Body of Christ, the
new Israel, the people called from dispersion into unity. With-
out bishop, presbyters, deacons, and people gathered together,
one cannot properly speak of Church. The Church is the one
Body in which the many are united in Christ, assembled in the
Spirit and already revealing in history the life of the Kingdom
to come.
