possible but already in process. Its realization will depend not
only on creative theological minds, but also on the life of the
Church herself—on whether theology remains rooted in the
Eucharist and in the experience of communion.
It is characteristic that much of this renewal has taken place
outside the traditional centers of Orthodoxy. What may ap-
pear as a historical accident may in fact reveal a deeper prov-
idence: that Orthodoxy, in order to rediscover its catholicity,
must encounter the wider Christian world. In this sense, the
future of Orthodox theology cannot be separated from its
ecumenical vocation.
For ultimately, the question is not simply one of method or
expression, but of being. Orthodoxy is called not merely to
preserve a past, but to manifest, in every age, the life of the
Kingdom—the communion in which the many become one
without ceasing to be many. Only in this way can she remain
faithful to her identity and offer her witness to the world.
