existence. Despite all our efforts, however, to transform and
transcend reality, the chains of Prometheus still bind him.
There is something in reality which continues to bother us and
from which we are unable to escape: the basic antinomies of
our existence, those of good and evil, life and death, being and
nonbeing, the fruit of the tree the human being chose to eat
“as soon as it came to existence.”
For this condition cannot be overcome from within. These
require now an intervention from outside (from “above”), a
death of the old and a resurrection into a new, eternal life
offered to the world in Christ and promised in the Kingdom.
Only faith in the eschata can liberate us from the bondage of
reality.
But this faith does not remain without form: it seeks
expression, articulation, and communion in truth.
