Chapter 20 (845) GOSPEL OF JOHN
   aloes, about a hundred Roman pounds. Then, they took Jesus’s body and wrapped it in linen cloths with the spices, according to the burial custom of the Jews. Now, there was a garden at the place where Jesus had been crucified. In the garden, there was a tomb in which no one had ever yet been laid. Then, because it was the Jew- ish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

ow, *on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark. She saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. At this, she ran back and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom
Jesus loved, and she told them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him!” Then, Peter and the other disciple went out toward the tomb. Both ran together, but the other disciple outran Peter
