P2-RS Hybrid Jacket
The Point Two P2-RS is a CE-approved combination Racesafe body protector and Point Two air jacket, which offers record levels of protection to riders.
It can be used in UK competition.
The new jacket is an RS2010 Racesafe body protector, approved to BETA 2009 Level 3, incorporated into the P2-RS which has the added protection of Point Two air vest technology. It carries the European Standard EN 13158:2009 Level 3, which it meets when both inflated and uninflated.
The P2-RS has been developed over the past 18 months by Point Two and Racesafe, together with safety experts and leading riders such as eventer Oliver Townend and jockey Ruby Walsh.
It inflates at speeds of up to 0.093 of a second, to provide almost instantaneous, enhanced protection to all the ma- jor thoracic and upper abdominal organs, the spine and the collar of the neck.
The P2-RS is more comfortable, convenient and nearly 20% lighter than using a separate body protector and air jacket — as currently required in UK competition.
The P2-RS works in exactly the same way as the Point Two ProAir. A lanyard attached to the jacket is clipped onto a lead fixed to the horse’s saddle. Once the rider lea- ves the saddle during a fall, the lanyard detaches itself from the P2-RS, triggering the release of CO2 gas from a canister.
It is fully reusable, and requires servicing annually or after every six falls.
In 0.093 of a second, the air bag inflates on the outside
of the body protector, offering almost instantaneous, en- hanced protection to all the major thoracic and upper ab- dominal organs, the spine and the collar of the neck. At also helps guard against crushing injuries in the event of a rotational fall.
The P2-RS will hold a rider tight for 10 seconds and then slowly deflate, in exactly the same way as the ProAir. Rigorous checks have been made on the inflated P2-RS to ensure it did not impede riders should they need to roll away from danger when on the ground.
Tests have shown that the airbag system can also help prevent impact damage to the foam’s cell structure, by cushioning the blow in a fall. This will increase the service life of body protectors, when used in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions.
Sizing is the same as Racesafe body protectors.
The airbag protection on the P2-RS is exactly the same as that on the Point Two ProAir. The ProAir is the choice of protection preferred by thousands Britain’s leisure riders and hunting fans who are not competing and therefore not required to also wear a body protector.
