By law, traffic routes must be suitably indicated
where necessary for reasons of health or safety.
Using traffic signs will help you to inform pedestrians and drivers of which route they should be taking and instruct drivers on relevant behaviours (e.g. speed limits).
You need to place your sign where pedestrians and drivers can see them and have time to understand and make sure that they action it accordingly.
If driving is likely to be carried out in the dark then the signs should be illuminated or reflected.
