Department Spotlight- Emergency Department\u000A The providers, nurses and staff at Upson\u2019s Emergency Department are uniquely qualified to provide care in an emergency setting. Working together and with new technologies available at Upson, this team is able to do more for critically ill patients than ever before.\u000AUpson\u2019s Emergency Department sees on average 29-30,000 patients per year. The Emergency Room is open 24/7, including holidays and weekends. Upson can handle hundreds of emergency conditions, including heart attack, stroke, breathing problems, hypo- and hyperglycemia and broken bones.\u000A\u201CUpson Regional Medical Center is now designated as a Remote Treatment Stroke Center by the Georgia Department of Public Health (Office of EMS and Trauma). \u201CUpson\u2019s Emergency Department stands ready to provide immediate state-of-the-art stroke treatment and direct access to specialty care,\u201D said Emergency Department Medical Director Anthony Marchetti, M.D.\u000AUpson\u2019s Emergency Department also provides immediate treatment for interventional cardiology. \u201COur staff makes sure these patients are taken care of quickly,\u201D said Christen Colwell, Emergency Department Director. Upson\u2019s Emergency Department started a new protocol a year ago where patients under cardiac arrest can be put on the Arctic Sun machine to lower temperature to help the brain and organs.\u000A\u201CWe have a great team of RNs, paramedics, LPNs, EMTs, CNAs and providers that make sure patients are provided with the best quality care,\u201D said Colwell. \u201CWe also have licensed counselors that see mental health patients, and they are known as the MAT team. We are grateful to provide these necessary services to our patients,\u201D Colwell added.\u000AUpson\u2019s Emergency Department is constantly improving patient satisfaction.
