Anti-inflammatory drugs: MCP-1 and CCR2
• C-C Chemokine Receptor (CCR2) is typically found on monocytes/macrophages involved in inflammation, including renal inflammation
• Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), the most prominent chemokine ligand for CCR2.
• MCP-1 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy
• Therefore, blocking CCR2 may block the detrimental effects of MCP-1 in renal disease
• Several Phase 2 clinical trials ongoing to test efficacy of MCP-1 or CCR2 inhibition
