   DISRUPTION OF HEALTHCARE OJACNTUOABREYR 2018
How edge computing can improve security, access and transmission efficiency for the healthcare sector
Edge computing, also know as “fog computing,” is a data processing model that uses sensors and connected devices to send data to nearby computing devices—rather than send the data to the cloud for processing. Edge computing, which can also work in tandem with cloud-based IoT data management, can allow the healthcare industry to secure and gather data more efficiently, provide greater access to data and transmit results immediately to users. (Business Insider Intelligence, Peter Newman, July 2018)
CLOUD COMPUTING VERSUS EDGE COMPUTING
According to a white paper on fog computing in medicine, researchers concluded that edge computing can reduce the amount of cloud storage needed by up to 99%, reducing not only storage costs but also networking costs. The paper also suggests that edge computing can communicate critical information faster, while spending less to store and safeguard the data.
