Should we break them up because they avoid taxes? [Apple is] effectively paying a 4% tax rate on pro ts held overseas. Apple is not alone here. Amazon has paid $1.4 billion in taxes since the Great Recession, [while] Walmart has paid $64 billion.
What does it mean when the most successful companies in the world don’t pay taxes? [It] means our  re ghters our soldiers and our roads [were] paid by companies that are less successful. Our tax system has basically become a regressive structural economic system that holds back the small and medium-sized businesses.
