and steam power,” said Padhi. “The second one saw the assembly line, which the automotive industry led. And in the third industrial revolution, value was created by computers and automation. When we look at Industry 4.0, it’s a new world in which the physical world is going to coexist with unprecedented amounts of data, computing power, and other advances... The automotive industry will see more disruption in the next ten years than it has seen in the last 50 years”
BENEFITS OF MOBILITY AUTOMATION TO CITIES
Self-driving cars are expected to upend the transportation industry, creating a $7 trillion industry by 2050, according to a 2017 study by Strategy Analytics and Intel Corp. Consumers’ use of Mobility-as-a-Service will account for nearly 55% of revenues ($3.7 trillion) with Business/B2B Mobility as a service accounting for $3.0 trillion of revenues and new emerging applications and services—ranging from pilotless vehicles for hotel, restaurant, entertainment and healthcare—will generate more than $234 billion, according to the study. The rush is on to transform the automotive industry
In the second quarter of 2018, private investment in connected and autonomous companies totaled $5 billion, surpassing the total invested in the sector for the last four years combined, according to Bloomberg. But this is only the tip of the iceburg, according to Dr. Alexander Hars, founder and managing director of Inventivio GmbH.
