P. 25
Life is full of surprises and undoubtedly, this has been made more pronounced in these unprecedented times of the Covid-19 pandemic. Being locked down at home for months has made me reassess the life I have and the lessons I learned in MXIS in this past three years. Many of you might have not known, but I was a struggling middle school kid back in Taiwan. My life then generally seems to have no direction. I was reluctant to follow my parent’s decision to move here at first, but I knew then that I have to make a change for my future. When I was in Grade 10, everything was new to me. I stepped into my new homeroom class, afraid of everything around me. Fast forward to the first week of school, I remember when my classmates invited me to tag along with them to a trampoline park. Unfortunately, I did not bring enough money for my dinner that night. Instead of ignoring me, they all offered me something to eat since they could see that I was hungry at the time. Now, looking back at hindsight, it was not just the food that my classmates gave me that day. More than the food, my classmates gave me friendship. More than the dinner, they made me feel valued and welcomed. After that first week of school, my journey onwards with my classmates have been filled with nothing but joy, laughter, care, and warmth. So, from the bottom of my heart, I would like to say thank you to all my classmates for being so nice and caring to me over these past three years. I will forever treasure not only you guys in my heart, but also all the memories we’ve made together not just as a class...but also as a family.
As you browse through this convocation, you will see the group of people that are the most talented, caring, loving, and aspiring individuals who are all destined for greatness, and it is with my greatest honor to be able to call them not only my classmates, but also as my dearest friends. I also want to express my greatest gratitude to not only my friends and classmates, but also to our dear teachers, faculty members, principal, and most importantly our loving parents. Without their tireless support and their boundless love for us that our parents give to us every single day, we would not be able to become who we are and what we have achieved all these years. So, once again, I would like to congratulate the batch of 2020 as we have survived the IB battle. And to the upcoming IB students, yes, we have escaped from the wrath of the IB exam, but don’t lose hope you guys! Who knows, maybe next year some sort of miracle will happen for you guys as well.
