PLEA TO A DIVINE MESSENGER
In Greek mythology, Iris travels the rainbows to bring messages from the gods to human beings.
Swoop down, Iris, to this heavy blue bowl of tears and stroll lightly
these guarded streets with me.
Tell me something new.
Dissolve my cautious map I penned in straight lines, flaying the joy of surprise. It’s a faded vellum trap.
Whisper a word of caprice,
of fullness, rainbow engorgement, purple and gold raiment
spilling from a stuffed valise.
Speak the iridescence of pearls,
the glisten of brass, the taste
of round olives and wine. Make haste! I need this tight life unfurled.
