To celebrate Braun’s 100th birthday, the iconic German appliance manufacturer enlisted king of collaborations Virgil Abloh (that’s not to mention his role as artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear) to reinterpret its Wandanlage hi-fi wall unit from 1965. Designed by the one and only Dieter Rams, the stereo system has been up- dated in a polished chrome that references Braun’s catalogue of functional designs while also nodding to hip hop’s taste for shiny things. Before reading (and salivating) any further, be warned that this beautiful piece of design is a one-off “functional art piece.” Might we ever see a similar design available for purchase? Who knows — but we can dream.
