PARENT NOTIFICATION AND COMMUNICATION
Parents must be notified of W-APT assessment results:
● 30 days at the beginning of the school year
● 14 days during the remainder of the school year
In addition, communication must be in the parent’s language of choice so that translation and interpretation must be provided upon request by the parent. Written translations of many of the PDE forms can be downloaded from www.transact.com . The following are languages for which our school/district should be prepared to provide translations:

EXITING AND MONITORING EL STUDENTS
Program exit from EL may only take place annually between June and September. The most up-to-date exit criteria can be found in the PDE Documents Section of this handbook. (See State Required Exit Criteria for Pennsylvania’s English Language Instructional Program for English Language Learners.) Should any information on the exit criteria change, this document should be removed and replaced with the most current PDE version. Please be sure to check the ACCESS scores of all ELs carefully as there are also special circumstances in which some students may qualify for a re-test based on a score that is close to exit status. This State required criteria ensures consistent measures across LEAs in Pennsylvania.
A requirement of NCLB Title III is to monitor transitioned (exited) students’ academic achievement after exit to ensure that he/she is continuing to progress and be successful without encountering difficulty as a result of English language skills. Monitoring must begin as soon as the student exits the program and shall continue for a period of two years. State approved monitoring forms can be found under the Templates section of this handbook and should be placed in the students’ files as part of recordkeeping. During the two year monitoring period, any student encountering academic difficulty that is determined to be a result of English language skills may be reclassified and placed back into an EL program if
