made a tremendous difference. It was a joy to participate in ARCS events and I always came away feeling encouraged and reenergized. I am so grateful for my donors, Sharon and Henry Hewitt, who were always thoughtful and supportive––we keep in touch to this day.
It’s hard to understate the impact of unrestricted financial support at a time when the hours are long, and earnings are modest. Because of my ARCS award, I was able to accept a fellowship during my graduate program to spend a year in the Netherlands conducting research with the unique
approaches and resources at the University
of Maastricht. During my time, the Euro reached an all-time high and I could continue to stay there and finish the enriching program because of the award.
The opportunity to be an ARCS scholar allowed me to focus on my work and minimized some of the challenges of graduate school. Looking back, I learned about the value of being part of a community. The generosity of ARCS members has encouraged me to do all I can to support others in their career development.
