Dear Board of Directors:
Thank you for providing a generous stipend to me. It certainly helped me to be able to pay forthetransportationexpensestogobackandforthtomyinternship. Iamadeafinternational student who is currently studying for a masters degree in social work at Gallaudet University. My dream is to become a qualified social worker and help people in need. So, I am glad that your organization was able to help create a path to a brighter future for me. I also understand that you provided funds that helped pay for the ASL Interpreter who helped bridge the communication issues between me and the workers and clients where I was assigned as an intern.
I was the only deaf intern working at Community Connections. It is a great challenge to me but your generosity has made it possible. During my internship, I visited different clients with my supervising social worker from the agency, as well as met with clients and reviewed and collected data for case studies at the office. Observing and learning from my supervisor on how to work with clients professionally. I now more fully understand some obstacles that clients face and how to interact and help them. What impressed me the most was when my supervisor and I brought a crib to a young mother's house and helped her set it up. She looked glad and relieved because she just had the baby and needed it. She had no income so it meant a lot to her. At that moment, I more fully realized that it is the responsibility and joy of the social worker to be able to help people in need. I now will be able to study and further develop my skills as I continue with my internship this next spring because of the opportunity and support your grant money afforded me this term.
Sincerely,
Tong Liu
