Allergy Management:
Confronting the (Green) Monster
Under the Bed
Moderators: Dana V. Wallace, MD, FACAAI; and Katherine L. McCormack, MD
Changes in the prevalence, persistence, and severity of pediatric food allergy have occurred concurrent with the rise of novel and emerging management approaches. To achieve the goal of attaining food tolerance, proactive introduction of food allergens in conjunction with an immune-supportive diet is an attractive option for children presenting with food allergy in early life. In these patients, conventional dietary management of food allergy naturally transitions from a passive, avoidance-only approach to an active, individualized plan. This personalized approach should address the consumption of food allergens as appropriate, focus on the patient’s comprehensive nutritional status, and target the developing immune system. This session will address best practices in pediatric food allergy based on the most up-to-date evidence.

WAO World Allergy Forum: The Skin as an Immunological Target Moderators: Gailen D. Marshall, Jr., MD, PhD, FACAAI; and
Bryan L. Martin, DO, FACAAI
During this WAO update on skin disorders, current concepts about the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of complications in patients with atopic dermatitis, hereditary angioedema, and urticaria will be described. These three immunological diseases, with the greatest impact when
the immune system responds exaggeratedly, represent more than 80% of the dermatological problems treated by allergists and clinical immunologists. Allergists who treat patients with these three diseases will find better tools
for their diagnosis and treatment in this update. Timely recognition of the manifestations of these diseases can result in better treatment and prognosis and improve care for those patients.
