Another factor to consider is where to have your car serviced. When it comes to regular maintenance, avoid the appeal of quick- change oil services, especially if your car is rare or unique – you just can’t be sure that these outfits have the requisite experience to ensure that they have, example, the correct tools to service your car. Take it to a marque specialist who will know the right fluids to use, the correct torque values, etc.
Insurance is another key question and, in my experience, getting insurance from a company specialized in classic cars, like Hagerty, is a must because they truly understand the cars they insure. For example, if your car was originally insured a decade ago for $10,000, Hagerty will contact you if the value increases. Don’t underestimate this benefit – we recently took in a 911 SC convertible damaged in a barn collapse that had been insured for $30,000 several years ago, but it’s going to cost substantially more than the outdated agreed value to repair it. At most insurance companies, you’re just a number, but in my experience, specialized classic car insurers value their relationships and pay out 90 percent of the time. Most important – get your insurance once you own the car and before you ship it because most shippers don’t have anywhere near the insurance required to cover any potential transport damages.
Exterior and interior cleaning are likely also going to be on your list and I recommend McKee’s 37 products. I am always amazed what a good detailing professional can do to bring an aged finish back to life with careful compounding and paint correction. Ceramic coating also adds a fresh sheen and its dirt-repelling
