This generation of the Supra made the car’s reputation, and Toyota changed the car only by small increments throughout the production run, adding a single horsepower to the turbo model. Once again, due to the late arrival of the next generation Supra, 1992 models were still sold through the spring of 1993.
engine’s midrange for maximum performance with minimal turbo lag. With its new Getrag six-speed manual transmission, the twin- turbo Supra could hit 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds on its way to a top speed governed to 160 mph. The four-speed automatic could also be ordered with the turbo model. Turbo models also received larger brakes and 17-inch wheels than the standard Supra. In contemporary tests, the Supra was faster than a Porsche 928 at nearly twice the retail price. Reviewers found the Supra to be a top performance car in acceleration, speed, handling, and braking.

Toyota Supra A80 (1993-1998)
The Supra came into its maturity with the advent of the A80 in the spring of 1993. This is the car that starred in Hollywood’s The Fast and The Furious and cemented the Supra as a legendary performance car. The heart of that reputation is the 3.0-liter iron- block 2JZ engine. In its naturally aspirated form, the 2JZ-GE produced 220 horsepower and 210 lb ft of torque, which was certainly a worthy performance car for the era. This engine was paired with the buyer’s choice of a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic.
The iron block was important because it allowed the twin-
turbocharged 2JZ-GTE to produce 321 horsepower and a
whopping 315 lb ft of torque from the factory, and much more than
that in the hands of aftermarket tuners. Toyota engineered the twin
turbochargers to work sequentially, with one designed to spin up
quickly at low rpm, then the second turbo adds its boost in the modifications to enhance its performance and appearance.
