DISTRACTIONS. Chinetti was offered several entries in 1950 as the defending Le Mans
champion, and he used them to introduce Briggs Cunningham and their two-Cadillac
team to the French race. Perhaps this diverted his attention from the Ferrari Touring
Barchetta (0038M) that he shared with Pierre Louis-Dreyfus. They would retire in the
race. Pre-race preparations seem carefree. Chinetti (facing camera in the garage) chats
with business partner Jean-Arthur Plisson (back to camera) while Jean Lucas listens and
Marion Chinetti sits patiently. KLEMENTASKI COLLECTION

ENCOURAGEMENT. Chinetti and a team mechanic are chatting with the seated Raymond
Sommer. Luigi had convinced the great French driver to come out of retirement and take
the team’s second Ferrari. He did so with aplomb, leading most of the early hours before
electrical issues stopped the car. KLEMENTASKI COLLECTION
