RACING HIGHLIGHTS
Racing days during the Historic Festival, with over 200 cars and nine groups, is a challenging act of balancing cars and capabilities as the Groups span a wide variety of racing machinery. At one extreme was a special pre-1939 Group that included many pre-war Grand Prix-level competition cars, such as an ERA R2A, Maserati 4CM, Alfa 8C2300 and several Bugattis. A number of these cars formed their own “Grand Prix Greats” class at the Sunday Concours.
At the other extreme were the Wings and Slicks Group, consisting of both open and closed cars from famed builders like Lola, March, Swift and Chevron, as well as the Big-bore Production Car Group that featured a variety of production-based American, Japanese and European sports cars.
Porsche was well represented at the event with its own dedicated Group, consisting of 26 911-based entries, plus one especially rare 914-6/GT. Another Group, Mid-Century Sporting Cars, also included several 356s. Together, they continued a long tradition of competition Porsches at Lime Rock.
