Project DescriPtion:
The USACE - New Orleans District wanted to create an emergency access point into the Mississippi River for smaller motorized watercraft. Previously, no such access was available from the city into the river.
Problem:
The challenge was how to stop water flow while creating a permanent structure in an area that stretched into a river as large as the Mississippi. Building a coffer dam around the area would prove to be too costly and dangerous; therefore, this inherently forced creative thinking for a solution.
solution:
ShoreBlock® BD 800 Boat Ramp Block was selected by the USACE because it offers multiple creative solutions to the problems being faced. The articulated concrete block mats can be installed in “wet” conditions and will articulate to the existing and ever changing profile of the river bank. The ShoreBlock® BD 800 Boat Ramp Block was specifically designed with 1⁄2” grooves on the top surface of the block to add extra traction for any vehicles traveling over it in wet conditions.
