FORMER STAFF DINNER
LAW NETWORKING EVENT
Over fifty guests gathered at the offices of Herbert Smith Freehills in the City of London for the second Headington Law Society networking evening in March 2017. The guest speaker on this occasion was the former Solicitor General, Sir Edward Garnier QC, MP, who gave a fascinating talk on being a lawyer at the heart of politics. Before the talk started, pupils with an interest in a career in law were given a tour of Herbert Smith Freehills and had the opportunity to hear from graduate trainees at the leading law firm on their route into the profession. We are most grateful to Sir Edward Garnier for speaking at the event, especially as earlier in the day he was involved
in the lockdown at the Palace of Westminster following the terrorist attack at the Houses
of Parliament. We are also hugely grateful to Headington former parent Neil Warriner, a partner of Herbert Smith Freehills, for facilitating the careers advice and for hosting the evening.
“I just wanted to write and thank you all for a really fantastic evening... everyone I spoke to had a wonderful and convivial evening and the atmosphere was really superb. It was truly such a genuine reflection that Headington is so much more than bricks and mortar.“
In March 2017, the Development Team organised our first Former Staff Dinner, part of the 2016/17 Headington Association programme of events. Forty-four former members of staff sat down for dinner in the Hall, accompanied by twenty-four alumnae and twenty-two current members of staff. As the quotes confirm, the event was a resounding success.
“Thank you very much for the wonderful evening yesterday; it was lovely to see and catch up with so many colleagues and friends last night and visit the school again – it brought back many very happy memories.”
“...a big ‘thank you’ for the dinner on Monday evening. I had no idea just how many of my teachers would be there, from my junior school ballet teacher (Miss Ford) to my U3 form tutor (Mrs Gittins) and a couple of maths teachers from various years (Mrs Ford and Mrs Parkerson). The evening was a real blast from the past and I would recommend it to any alumnae.”
