We were both nervous waiting backstage but you can feel the energy from the arena, the applause for the dancers before you, and that takes you to a place beyond the nerves and motivates you to just do your best and enjoy the moment, the music and your partner’s embrace. When the results were announced, we found out we had placed 16th in the world – a result we were absolutely delighted with. The cherry on the cake was that I was the first British dancer ever to make it to the final of the World Tango Championship. So, in our own way, we could also claim a first and that’s something Dante – who taught me all I
know of tango – and I are very proud of!
I continue
to work in
humanitarian and public
health as a medical consultant,
as well as teaching at Oxford Tango Academy every day, the dance school that we founded seven years ago. Of course, there’s always the 2017 World Tango Championships to look forward to! We’ll be competing in both the Tango Stage and Tango Salon categories this time. Dante and I always dance to enjoy ourselves
and to continue developing as artists. Who knows, we may even reach the
final again, and win a higher place
in the world tango rankings! That’s our goal.”
