THE HEADINGTONIAN 2017
Welcome!
PERFORMING ON A GLOBAL STAGE
Last year, at the Global Forum on Girls’ Education in New York, the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools, which hosted this groundbreaking conference, screened a video filled with clips from some of the young women educated at girls’ schools worldwide. Two girls from Headington were among the voices talking about the power and importance of educating girls. I was immensely proud to see Headington represented in this global celebration of all-girls education.
This is just one of many ways in which we celebrate our international outlook
and links across the world. There are currently 46 nationalities represented at Headington and we firmly believe that this encourages girls to have a global outlook, broadens their horizons and fosters cultural tolerance and understanding.
While in New York, I took the opportunity to meet up with Headingtonians who are based in the city and I very much enjoyed being able to share news of the School and to hear their memories of their time at Headington. Currently, making these global links seems more important than ever.
It is therefore vital that our school continues to look outwards, to promote tolerance and understanding and to support our girls as they prepare to take their places on the global stage.
One final important point. In order to continue receiving The Headingtonian magazine and all other communications from the School, it is necessary for you tocompleteandreturnthedataconsentformenclosed.Unfortunately, ifwedon’t receive your expressed consent, we can’t continue to correspond with you. New data regulations which will come in to effect in May 2018 require us to take these steps. We very much hope you will want to remain in touch with us, and if so, please take a moment to complete and return the enclosed form.
Thank you!
CAROLINE JORDAN
Headmistress
DEAR HEADINGTONIANS,
We are living in uncertain times but Headington School has lived through many changes and I’m confident that we will continue to adapt and thrive.
I do hope you will enjoy the theme of this year’s magazine which compliments the Year of Performing Arts which the school is celebrating. There have been a wide variety of Headingtonian events this year and the Janet Young Memorial Lecture deserves particular mention. Bridget Kendall was an excellent speaker and it was enjoyable to hear that familiar voice talking on a very topical subject: Russia.
Recently there was a Former Staff Dinner at which all sections of the School community were represented: ex staff, current staff, alumnae, current
girls, parents and of course Mrs. Jordan and some of her team. This event illustrated what a cohesive community the Headington family is. I hope that we Headingtonians can continue to support the School actively alongside the other elements that make up the Headington School family.
I thank the Headingtonians Committee for their hard work and support. I look forward to seeing many of you at Headingtonians’ Day in June.
Finally, my congratulations to the School for achieving such fantastic results both inside and outside the classroom.
With my very best wishes.
JANE WOODCOCK (1975) Chairman of the Headingtonians
