Page 59 - Extinguishment of self, in search of dhamma
P. 59
We contemplate the impermanence of the natural conditions that emerge; contemplate differences in the emergence- cessation phenomena that emerge.
Even the same natural condition can have different emergence-cessation phenomena. It is not only that the thoughts phenomenon is different from the sound phenomenon—even the sound phenomena emerging at different time will have different emergence-cessation. This is why I always ask how phenomena differ from previously. The present emergence-cessation, the next emergence- cessation—how are they different. My question is very speci c—unlike in the past. In the past, I asked how the emergence-cessation phenomena changes; how they differ from previously. We must nd the answer!
Nowadays I ask: Is the phenomenon emerging- ceasing quicker or slower? Does it emerge-cease like a sudden break or slowly fade away... very speci c questions. Even with such speci c questions, many still cannot answer correctly. Even with choices given, many still cannot pick the right choice. They pick another choice—a choice not given. It is as though you do not know what the key thing to pay attention to is; do not know what I have asked you to experience. Then, you ask me: How do I progress? How come I am stuck? How come I seem to go around in circle? You have been concerned about what to do in order to progress.
