Trae Lee wasn't sure what he wanted to do with his life when he attended the 2015 ELCA Youth Gathering as a high schooler. Now he serves as a Supply Specialist with the US Army 260th Engineer Support Company. In October 2020, he also got orders to join the Rapid Response Force, a state activated unit, assisting organizations through the pandemic. Trae is preparing for deployment with the 260th and will report to the National Training Center this summer before serving a one year deployment overseas.
“When I was down, people were always there to help me out. This made me realize you don’t have to know someone to do something that is kind. I wasn’t able to thank them all. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them. That's why I'm doing this.” TRAE LEE
Kent Haaland, a two-time cancer survivor, is motivated to serve because he can. “I can wake up. I can dress myself. I can help others,” Kent says with gratitude. After serving 22 years with the Air Force, Kent moved to Montana and began working with Veterans Affairs. He wanted to travel in his retirement, but also felt called to work with teens, as he spent part of his life working with severely emotionally disturbed youth. In 2017, Kent became an Adult Mentor for the High School Ministry at KOG.
"I don't know why the kids think I'm cool, but the connections we build together while talking, serving,
and traveling are better than excellent!"
