EFFECTS OF FLOODING JUNE 2, 2023
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...
During the first days of June our community experienced near-record rainfall in Billings. In the midst of that massive rainfall, a sump pump failed outside the Fellowship Hall on the lower level of the church. This pump removes rainwater from the outdoor patio area to drain fields under the parking lot. With the pump failure, water built up in the patio and flowed into the fellowship hall doors. This major flood allowed more than an inch of water to cover the entire basement of the church.
When the flooding was discovered on the morning of Saturday, June 3, around 25 volunteers showed up with shop vacs and carpet cleaners to help get the water out of the building.
On Tuesday, June 6 even more volunteers showed up to move furniture, boxes, and supplies. Dumpsters were filled with wet cardboard/paper and two trailers were sent to the landfill!
On Saturday, June 10 another 25 volunteers assembled to help remove much of the carpet in the basement. Roger Adam helped coordinate this very strenuous task.
On Sunday, June 11, fellow ELCA congregation, American Lutheran, brought boxes and boxes of doughnuts & juice for our fellowship time! It helps to know our brothers and sisters are thinking of us and finding ways to share kindness as we deal with this crisis.
On Thursday, June 15 volunteers stripped wallpaper in the Fellowship Hall to further assess wall damage.
At Right: Some of the volunteers on 6/10/23 pause for a group photo after ripping up the ruined carpet from the KOG fellowship hall.
