Cameron Maas is convinced that artists are not born, they are made. "When we were younger," Cameron notes, "everyone was drawing, but eventually everyone stopped. I kept drawing."
In the spring of 2022, Cameron graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Illustrating. He received the 2022 MIAD Alumni Senior Thesis Award (for illustration and comic art) and has worked as a freelance character artist, comic colorist, and mural designer/painter. You may have seen his work in Billings back in 2018 as part of the MasterLube "War of the Walls." (see inset image)
What really intrigues Cameron about his work as an artist is the ability to create a story. When he's drawing, his focus is on two dimensional art that leads toward storytelling. “Without a story there’s no connection to anything,” Cameron notes. “If I make something, I want people to connect with it.” In a way, Cameron says, “I have the desire to
share life's experiences with others."
Cameron is not sure what's next for him, but he plans to keep drawing, motivated by the process of creating, both alone and with others.
