National Roads Authority
The National Roads Authority has statutory responsibility
for the management of the national roads programme
and for the allocation of grants to specific projects on the national roads network. While the Minister for Transport has responsibility for overall policy and funding in relation to the national roads programme, the implementation of individual projects is a matter for the NRA in conjunction with the relevant local authority.
The NRA, under Section 17 of the Roads Act, 1993, has overall responsibility for the planning and supervision of works for the construction and maintenance of national roads. The responsibility for the provision of funding to carry out improvement work on individual projects also rests with the NRA.
