Certificate in Professional Competence
A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC in Road Transport Operations Management) is required by all those who are nominated as a Transport Manager in an application for a Road Transport Operator’s licence.
The course combines national and international requirements for professional competence. The certificate that is issued will cover national and international operations.
The subjects cover all the areas of the setting-up, operations and maintenance of a transport business on an effective and continuous basis. Students will study accountancy, finance, business administration, social legislation, computer applications and marketing (all
of which are given a transport bias) as well as subjects directly related to transport such as access to the profession of transport operator, the law of contract as it applies to the carriage of people or goods, tachograph legislation, regulations relating to height, weight, general dimensions and selection of vehicles, general information relating to the optimisation of vehicle usage and driving licence regulations. Students will also study international conventions and agreements, as well as other items relevant to transport operators working internationally such as route planning, accident procedures and
safety. The courses are available at a number of centres throughout the country, mostly on a part-time basis.
The course will require a minimum of 110 hours tuition. Course fees are determined by the individual centres and an examination fee is payable to CILT.
