                           Minister for Transport,
Sustaining the Economy of Our
Island Nation
Iam pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Members’ Yearbook 2017 and to recognise the work of the Institute and the position it has established as a leading professional body in the transport and logistics sector.
The transport and logistics industry is vitally important in sustaining the economy of our island nation. Businesses depend on road transport to deliver essential materials for their enterprises. We all rely on the sector to distribute
the wide variety of consumer goods that support our modern lifestyle. A reliable and efficient transport industry is of fundamental importance in Ireland, and I would like to salute the many people whose involvement contributes to the success of the sector. As our economy continues to recover and activity increases in the road transport industry, my Department will continue to support the sector and will be responsive to its concerns.
The role played by CILT in providing education, training and professional support for the transport and logistics industry is a valuable one. The Institute promotes high standards in its work, and this in turn helps to promote professionalism, efficiency, and best practice across the industry. These are qualities that help the sector to meet the challenges of a very competitive business environment.
The relationship between CILT and my Department is well-established. We have co-operated successfully over the years across a range of transport issues and our productive relationship will no doubt be maintained in the coming years. I would like to take this opportunity to wish CILT continued success in all their current and future undertakings.
