Upcoming CILT Skillnet Courses in 2017
The CILT Skillnets training network is a group of private sector businesses involved in supply chain, logistics and transport that have come together to offer a variety of training programmes for the mutual advancement of skills and expertise. Here are just some of the programmes that will be on offer in the coming year.
 Collision Investigation Reporting
2 Days
  This course provides the necessary skills to attend an incident and identify and record the rele- vant information, including the interviewing of drivers and witnesses. Understanding the infor- mation tachographs that on-board cameras (dashcams) and sat-navs provide in these circum- stances. Collating this information into a suitable format for use in a subsequent investigation.
By having an awareness of the techniques used during a forensic collision investigation the Road Transport Manager/ Safety O cer can prevent exposure to liability issues and improve overall compliance.
 Fleet Managers Compliance Awareness
1 Day
  This course is aimed at managers and supervisors involved with transport operations in the pri- vate and public sector. The course will provide an overview of the Passenger Carrying Operator Licensing system and Transport Operators Licensing system, highlighting employer and driver responsibilities. It also details the many other areas of legislation that directly a ect the opera- tor licence obligations, such as driver hour rules, the safety of passengers and secure loads on vehicles. The course is classroom-based and is suitable for a maximum of 16 delegates.
 Driver - Vehicle Daily Visual Inspection Compliance Training 1/2 Day
  This course ensures that drivers fully understand their responsibilities when carrying out walk around checks. It also helps delegates to identify defects, to ensure operator compliance and prevent possible prohibitions. The course is classroom-based and also includes a practical demonstration of conducting a walk around check. The course is suitable for a maximum of 16 delegates.
  Vehicle Safety Management 15 Hours
(5 Evenings)
 This course covers maintenance planning, maintenance goals and objectives, preventive main- tenance inspections and services, documentation, PM inspections, identi ed defects, work orders, PM services, PM management by exception, pre-trip inspections, maintenance training, maintenance management information system, preventive maintenance planning, pre-trip inspections, management of maintenance records, parts and equipment controls, safe facilities and safe employees.
   Driver Health and Wellbeing Safety Management
15 Hours
(5 Evenings)
 This course covers the management of health and safety plan – determining safety policy
and planning for implementation. It will guide you on how to organise for health and safety, pro le risks and implement your plans; how to check, measuring performance, and monitor before events and investigate post-events; how to review performance, and act on lessons learnt. The course also provides guidance on incident reporting provisions of an occupational health service (OHS); slips and trips, musculoskeletal disorders/manual handling; violence and aggression/challenging behavior; lone working; work-related stress; bullying and harassment; hazardous substances; the provision and use of work and lifting equipment; and display screen equipment.
 Transport Workplace Safety
Design Layout Management
15 Hours

   This course delivers training in the management and assessment of risks, and control mea- sures for supervising and monitoring workplace transport issues. The course covers safe deliveries and (un)loading at sites, pedestrian/vehicle separation and access by members of the public, eliminating/minimising reversing, speed limits, safe driver training, drivers as a vulnerable group, work-related road safety, safe vehicle, vehicle selection and maintenance, overturning vehicles, falls from vehicles, objects (including the load) falling o  vehicles, park- ing vehicles and trailers.
   Load Securing / Safe Loading and Unloading IRU Certified Safe Loading and
Cargo Securing Programme
15 Hours
(5 Evenings)
  This programme includes key elements of the European best practice guidelines on cargo securing for road transport, and incorporates the new revised standard. This programme will answer questions such as:
What are the limitations on axle loads?
Which loading and securing techniques should be applied to a speci c cargo?
How many lashings and other safety equipment should be used for a speci c cargo?
The topics covered include risks and responsibilities, technical standards, laws of physics, vehicle characteristics, categories of good transported, best practice for loading, securing material and techniques.
