Welcome to the Autumn edition of the CILT Linkline journal. This edition displays some interesting articles touching on many different topics in relation to Logistics, Transport and the Supply Chain. CILT Ireland have delivered a varied and assorted number of events throughout the past few months and this edition takes you through some of these.
This is a very exciting time for the Institute, this summer CILT Ireland became part of Skillnets Ireland and succeeded in securing an ISO 9001 accreditation, which will provide CILT with the necessary management tools to improve work- ing practices throughout the entire organisation. CILT are equally very proud of these achievements. As well as this, CILT Ireland has recently appointed a new CEO, Mr Pat Treacy FCILT.
In this issue, we have included an article by Conor Molloy, Energy Advisor at AEMS, on the advantages of eco-driving in Ireland. Also on the subject of envi- ronmental protection, Declan Allen, Fellow of the Institute and Assistant Head of School of Management Studies in DIT, discusses why eco fuel is so important for us moving forward and ensuring compliance with European Commission guidelines. Declan has also contributed his first motor review in this issue. We hope to see a continuation of these reviews throughout the upcoming Linkline editions.
In April, CILT held three successful events to mark European Supply Chain day 2016. CILT would like to thank all who participated in presenting at these events to mark this occasion.
A tour of Dublin Bus, organised by CILT’s eastern section, was held in May. This event saw a great turnout and provided visitors with an unforgettable experi- ence. The Institute would like to thank Donal Keating CMILT (Operations Direc- tor, Dublin Bus) for his hospitality during the visit.
On page 13 of this publication, Tom Ferris takes us through his opinions on the well debated Brexit and how it may affect Ireland in the future.
The CILT graduation will take place on the 26th November this year and we look forward to meeting our successful graduates and their families. We have 43 students who will graduate this year and we wish them every success in their future endeavours.
The Institute is currently enrolling professionals for its Diploma in Logistics & Supply Chain Management which will commence on the 24th September 2016. This programme has now been revamped and enables students to move on from this diploma to a QQI accredited level 7 Degree programme. We would greatly appreciate if you could let your fellow colleagues know about our indus- try designed programme, as spaces are now limited.
I would also urge any members or companies that would like to contribute to the next issue of Linkline to please get in touch.
I hope you fully enjoy this edition of Linkline and I look forward to meeting new CILT members throughout the year. As always, I would like to congratulate and welcome all new members that have joined us in 2016. I look forward to work- ing with you, and for you, in the future.
Details of all CILT upcoming events will be posted on our website: www.cilt.ie.
