 Thursday 21st April
Event: Southern Section Event - Transport Safety Venue: Limerick Institute of Technology
The CILT Southern Section Event in transport safety took place in LIT Limerick. This event attracted over 40 individuals. The event opened with an introduction by Ailbe Burke (CMILT). Deirdre Sinnott McFeat (a policy maker and work related vehicle risk management specialist with the HSA) then spoke about how important health and safety
is for everyone today. She went into great detail about the safety of drivers and how important it is not to overlook the little things that drivers do in their everyday working lives. She gave great examples
of when best practice is not applied and how it can lead to injury. Deirdre’s presentation sparked a discussion among many of those present. John Hoctor, a student from LIT then presented his Final Year Project. Blaithin McElligott (Services Manager at Bus Eireann) also spoke about the services and training that Bus Eireann supply. Finally, Gerard Deegan (FCILT) presented on behalf of the Institute and the benefits of becoming a member of CILT Ireland. Gerard then gave his views and opinions on transport safety. A great night was had by all.

to Accelerate Investment in Transport’. The key elements of the lecture focused in on the following areas:
Limits to transport
Impact of the fiscal crisis
Evaluation capacity and skills
Doing an economic appraisal
Five case-studies
Need to accelerate transport investment
Tom’s presentation prompted a number of questions which stimu- lated a hugely interesting debate among the audience, which concluded in a general sense of agreement with Tom’s analysis.
Many thanks to the team at DIT Aungier Street for actively hosting and supporting the event.
