Welcome to the September edition of the CILT Journal, Linkline. This edition of the Journal is packed with some very interesting articles which cover some of our recent events, along with some professional articles.
We are delighted to feature an interview with
Brendan Keating (CEO of the Port of Cork) in this
edition of Linkline. I would like to thank Gerard
Deegan CMILT and Sinead Keary (Commercial
Marketing Executive) for their assistance in arranging this very insightful interview. To read this interview, please turn to page 26.
The Institute, along with the Michael Smur t Business School UCD, hosted the Dr. Jim Crowley Memorial Lecture on the 16thof April last which also coincided with European Supply Chain Day. The event featured a fantastic presentation by Enda Corneille (Country Manager Ireland) for Emirates Airlines along with a presentation response from Eamon Brennan FCILT (Chief Executive of the Irish Aviation Authority). The Institute would like to thank both speakers for their contributions on the night, along with Joe Walsh FCILT for assistance in the MC duties. We would also like to thank Chris McGlinn FCILT (Event Coordinator) and Prof. Brian Fynes FCILT for their hard work in arranging this very important event. A full report of the event is available on page 29.
The Institute have recently launched a series of Business Lectures with the Dublin Institute of Technology for the forthcoming academic year.
The rst lecture in the series – “Supply Chain Resilience” was delivered
by Pat Treacy FCILT to the Supply Chain Masters students. CILT will also
be extending its Business Lecture series to the Michael Smur t Business School where a Masters in Supply Chain Management is also delivered. CILT wishes to advise any Institute, College or University who is interested in establishing a similar initiative with the CILT to contact Pat Treacy (Email: pattreacy@cilt.ie) or Michael Lynham (Email: Michael@cilt.ie) to further discuss.
As part of this new initiative CILT have also developed a mentoring programme in collaboration with DIT whereby a limited number of students will be appointed professional CILT industry mentors for a full academic year. The Institute will conduct an interview process over the next month to help with the selection process of students for the programme.
A very interesting professional article, titled SME 3PLs in The Irish Transport and Logistics Sector, is featured on page 40 and is based on research conducted by Barry Jones MILT, under the supervision of Prof. Edward Sweeney FCILT. The objective of the research was to compare and contrast views from the supply chain management body of knowledge with contemporary industry practice in Ireland for possible industry advancement. Four Irish SME 3PLs were interviewed for this research.
I recently was invited to attend the 8th conference by the Irish Academy of Management where I presented my research titled “A Study on the Potential Role of Music Classi cation Technologies in video advertising”. The 2015 IAM conference theme was titled ‘Towards Socially Responsible Management?’ which examined key issues and debates regarding the future of management in its broadest sense using a multi-stakeholder approach. The conference featured over 200 delegates from Ireland and Europe.
