MeMorial lecture 2015
  The Lecture, organised by CILTI in cooperation, and with the support of UCD, took place on Thursday 16th April in 2015 in the UCD Michael Smur t School of Business, Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock, and was titled ∑ “The future of Legacy Carriers in a world dominated by Low Cost Carriers” presented by Enda Corneille Country Manager (Ireland) for Emirates Airline

thanked our host Professor Brian Fynes, PhD Professor of Supply Chain Management, Subject Area Head: Management, in UCD, welcomed the speakers ,the Crowley family members and guests and referred to the CILTI and UCD and the shared memorial tribute lectures to Dr Jim Crowley. This introduction was then followed with a welcome from Professor Brian Fynes, on behalf of UCD who also gave a personal overview of the late Dr Jim Crowley‘s tenure in UCD highlighting Jim’s contribution to learning in the specialist study of Logistics and Supply Chain learning and research.
The lecture was exceptionally well supported. The attendees ranged from many levels in management and operations in the transport and logistic industry along with third level students and CILTI members, past and present, all of whom experienced an excellent wide range of information and discussion on Full Service Carriers as given by Enda.
The Power Point based presentation consisted of a comprehensive set of slides that included headings of the Nature of Air Products, Cost Leadership Strategy, Comparisons, and Real Challenges for Traditional Full Service Carriers.
following excerpts are derived from a brief breakdown from the slide headings and were addressed in a personal and informed manner. These highlighted, under bullet points, a homogenous product that is costly to differentiate, relatively easy for new entrants to enter the market, with dependence on infrastructure development and being instantly perishable if not sold. Among other factors presented was the necessity to be the lowest
cost producer with lower prices than rivals with a low cost position that translates into higher returns. Also that the overall service is branded more like an experience with value created by offering a premium service for additional costs (higher prices).
