MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT, TOURISM AND SPORT, PASCHAL DONOHOE TD.
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport has an established reputation as a key professional body for the transport and logistics sector. I am pleased to make a contribution to the Institute’s Members’ Yearbook 2016.
In Ireland, the transport and logistics industry has a critical function in supporting our economy. Across the length and breadth of our island nation, the vast majority of goods are transported by road. To have a reliable and efficient transport service that meets the country’s requirements, we need all partners in the transport and logistics field to work well together. I commend the many people who work hard to make the sector successful and I remain conscious of the importance of supporting the industry.
I would like to acknowledge the valued role of CILT in providing education, training and professional support for the transport and logistics industry. The Institute’s work encourages high standards of professionalism and promotes efficiency, competitiveness and best practice in the industry – all of which are increasingly important in today’s challenging environment.
My Department has a longstanding and productive association with CILT and our two organisations have worked well together across a range of transport issues. I look forward to continuing our relationship in the coming years and I wish CILT every success with this publication and their future activities.
