The Ādam Paradox Hypothesis 230
2. Guarding Against Speculative Excess
Speculation is a temptation whenever revelation and science meet. APH must
resist this.
What APH does not claim:
It does not identify the exact genetic locus of infusion.
It does not claim divine intent can be reduced to molecular pathways.
It does not equate Adam with any single fossil or archaeological site.
What APH does claim:
The Qur
ʾān highlights decisive thresholds.
Science reveals matching patterns in anatomy, cognition, and demography.
Together they form a testable, falsifiable model — but never a final word
on divine mystery.
APH is a hypothesis, not a creed. Its aim is illumination, not dogma.
3. Scholarly Etiquette
The Qur
ʾānic beacons have been read for centuries. APH stands on the
shoulders of classical scholars and must engage them with respect.
al-Ṭabarī interpreted “names” (Q 2:31) as comprehensive knowledge,
encompassing sciences and languages.
Ibn Kathīr understood “spirit” (Q 32:9) as intellect and vitality.
Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī saw
“trust” (Q 33:72) as freedom and moral
responsibility.
APH does not claim novelty against these readings. It proposes that modern
science confirms their intuition: knowledge, intellect, and trust mark humanity
’s
decisive threshold.
Respecting classical tafsīr anchors APH in tradition and prevents arrogance.
