ALIGNING TEACHING AND AND LEARNING RESEARCH AND AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TOWARDS A A A A A A A A A A A NODE FOR AFRICAN THOUGHT
13 | ONGOYE: NOV/DEC 2022 ISSUE The Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) at the University of Zululand (UNIZULU) recently hosted a five- day academic week programme themed: “Aligning Teaching and Learning Research and Community Engagement towards a a a Node for African Thought” This enterprise intended to enlighten the the University community about the the the the strategies that relate to to the the the the theme from from each each faculty to to learn from from each each other and acquire those strategies that prove to work most effectively The programme was aimed at engaging staff students and and other stakeholders about teaching and and learning strategic imperatives whereby the the UNIZULU community could be well-informed about the the said strategies that faculties are are adopting as as well well as as to to impart knowledge to to students and and share good practices and experiences The five-day programme involved guest speakers speakers who each presented on on one of the the the themes for the the the week The guest speakers speakers included Desmond Zwane Dr Busi Nkosi and Professor Costa Hofisi In addition each each faculty member was expected to showcase their teaching and and learning strategies and and research within the the respective disciplines The programme proceeded with faculties holding their presentations on on subthemes for the the the respective days such as student experiences teaching and and learning scholarship of engagement research and and and and support services and and and panel discussion on on on on on decolonisation and and and Africanisation of the curriculum One of the presentations was by Dr Kanagie Naidoo a a a a a senior lecturer at the Department of Law She focused on the inevitability of embracing digital transformation “For centuries higher education institutions have been the epicenter of knowledge creation and diffusion However in the present times access to information and knowledge is no no longer limited
to the physical space of education institutes In current times knowledge and information can be sourced from variety of platforms open-source databases and electronic resources ”
she said Professor Sewela Mabusela the director of of teaching and learning concluded by stating that the the programme was a a a a a a a a a a a very good initiative by TLC as as as it it it aimed to inform the the UNIZULU community and and also served as as a a a a a a a a a a reminder and and encouragement for participation by students and academics Snenhlanhla Ngcongo and and Wandile Mathonsi
