One of the things that makes Sodurba so unique is that, interspersed among the houses of the five main residential suburbs (The Bluff, Treasure Beach, Merebank, Austerville and Wentworth), are a number of industries. These include two of South Africa’s largest oil refineries, a paper mill and other small factories.
While industry is symbolic of progress and economic growth, it can also be hazardous in terms of pollution. Several community and
government initiatives are promoting cleaner air, water and living standards. The aim is to make Sodurba carbon neutral
as soon as possible.
